Ideally, an artist should devote all their time to creating art, but the reality is often quite different. Typically, artists can spend no more than 30% of their available time on creation. After completing a piece, the real work has just begun, which includes taking photos of the artwork, retouching images, framing, and other basic tasks.
Additionally, artists need to exert effort in promoting their work, which may involve contacting media, agents, curators, publishers, and art columnists, among others. If artists cannot secure their assistance, they might need to promote their work to the public on their own.
Basic self-promotion includes maintaining at least one personal website and regularly updating it with new works and information. When organizing events, designing posters, flyers, and catalogues is necessary, which means spending time coordinating with designers and printers.
All of this does not even include the time needed to follow up with PR personnel and other relevant contacts. Many artists either do not know how to start or do not do enough in this regard, often resulting in a waste of precious time.
